Summary
Luce must spend her senior year at reform school after her boyfriend dies in a mysterious fire. She suspects that the dark shadows that have tormented her all her life had something to do with it. Attending this new school is Daniel, who she can't seem to shake that they have met before. She is drawn to him and can't explain why, especially since he is so hot and cold with her, as if trying to push her away. There is also Cam, another fellow student who has helped her settle and feel included and seems to like her. But once again, she can't get Daniel out of her mind.
Through a turn of events Luce finds out what Luce and Cam and a few other students at Sword and Cross are; fallen angels doomed to walk on earth for eternity. She also finds out that she and Daniel have met before, since the beginning of time she has met, fallen in love with him and died hundreds and hundreds of times. But there is something different about this time.

Summary
I could probably sum up this book in about 5 seconds......oh sorry, I just fell asleep thinking about it. This book was without a doubt a filler book in the series. That's about it.

Publishing people "Lauren Kate, we like your idea, but trilogy series are suuuper hot right now, do ya think you could stretch this idea into 3 books?

Lauren Kate "oh sure I can! I'll just write a book about absoutly nothing and give it a pretty cover! That should do the trick"

Thanks guys for having that convo.

After the battle at Sword and Cross, the reform school she was sent to, Daniel hides Luce at Shoreline, a school on the California coast with unusually gifted students: Nephilim, the offspring of fallen angels and humans. Luce has to stay for 2 weeks, just long enough for Daniel and Cam to get rid of the outcasts who want to kill Luce.

At Shoreline, Luce learns what the Shadows are, and how she can use them as windows to her previous lives.

The whole book could have been incorporated into another in half, or 1/4, or heck, even an 1/8 of the time. Except for the parts where she learns about the shadows and how to use them it was just a lot of useless information. and NOTING REALLY HAPPENED! lame.

Summary
If I were a betting person I would bet that this book was the whole premise for Lauren Kate's idea for the story and she wrote 2 filler books before just to make it a series. Just a guess though. I thought this was the best book of the series. (which isn't incredibly hard to do)

Luce is questioning her love for Daniel because it was such insta-love and doesn't believe that you can love someone so quickly blah blah blah. (good for her!) She learned that you are able to travel to the past through the shadows in the previous book and decides to visit her past selves and see her and Daniels love story at different times.  Each trip takes her deeper and deeper into the past. Daniel knows how dangerous traveling through the shadows is so takes off after her only to keep missing her. He needs to stop her before she drastically alters her future by being in the past. He follows her as she goes deeper until he ends up where it all started, The Fall.

My Review
Ya know, I didn't hate this series.  I didn't absoutly love it, but it was alright.  I got this series for cheap on amazon solely for the purpose to keep me entertained while my husband was on a week long business trip, and it fulfilled it's purpose. I thought that the writing was decent-ish and the plot line (once we got to the last book) was pretty original but my biggest vice about it was there were a lot of plot holes. It's like in the first one it sets up a little love triangle thing, but in the other books it's like it never happened. And other things that I can't think of specifically but there seem to be a lot of unanswered questions...which maybe will be answered in the final book Rapture but maybe not. who knows.
